Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 due for a January 2014 unveil

The Samsung Galaxy Gearhasn't even made it to the wrists of the public yet and already Samsung is working on its successor, the Galaxy Gear 2.
According to the Korean Digital Times the first watch was released to gauge public appeal and the next one will be more thought out. Perhaps that refers to the fact the Galaxy Gearonly works with the new and expensive Galaxy Note 3 right now. When the Galaxy S4 gets an Android 4.3 update it should work there too, but that's still a very niche market. That's why the Galaxy Gear 2 is expected to be an all-Android-friendly wrist-dweller. The new Galaxy Gear 2 should feature its own built-in GPS - this would be brilliant coupled with that 4GB on-board memory. With the watch running apps and music you could leave your phone at home when out on a run. While the iWatch rumour mill has been quiet of late it looks like Samsung may not have needed to rush its first smartwatch out quiet so fast. But with Apple hiring Nike's FuelBand consultant and the new iPhone 5S featuring that Nike focused M7 processor, we'd expect the iWatch to appear in 2014.

Samsungis expected to unveil the Galaxy Gear 2 at CES in January 2014. Here's hoping it's managed to cram in enough battery power to last at least a full day - as many early testers are complaining the current Gear can't handle. But we're picking ours up soon so check back to read our full in-depth Samsung Galaxy Gear review.

Sony releases Camera Remote API, opening the door to third-party camera apps

In the mix at IFA 2013 Sony announced that it's releasing the Camera Remote API for Sony cameras to developers, meaning more apps could offer remote control over Sony cameras in the future.
The software API will give developers access to a range of features that control Sony's cameras, including the ability to shoot stills and video, use the display of your smartphone as a live view monitor and control self-timer and zoom functions. Currently the Sony Play Memories for Mobile app offers all these features, but the release of the API means you could have support for Sony cameras in a third-party app, be that for a large social network like Instagram, a dedicated photo app like Aviary, or whatever else.

The API will enable developers to build apps across platforms too, so that's iPhone and Windows Phoneas well as others.
Currently the API supports some of Sony's most recent camera launches, including the new QX10 and QX100 lens-style cameras, the Sony NEX-6, 5R and new NEX-5T, as well as the Action Cams and the new music video recorder.

With connectivity becoming a key new feature on cameras, with the likes of Samsung, Panasonic, Canon and Nikon all launching models with some sort of wireless control function, supplying the tools to developers to allow them to provide innovative and engaging control apps might take some of the pain out of being restricted by having to use the manufacturer's own app.
But the onus is on the developer to find innovative ways to use such tools to make the connected camera experience better, but it could be that your favourite camera app could also control your favourite connected camera in the future.

Samsung Galaxy Gear a likely launch at Unpacked event

Sources claim the smartwatch will launch alongside Galaxy Note 3
Samsung has confirmed its latest Unpacked event, with the invites indicating that the star of the show will be the much-rumoured Samsung Galaxy Note 3, But the launch of Samsung's smartwatchnow seems likely too.
That's according to the usually reliable SamMobile site, which claims the launch ofthe Galaxy Gear is a certainty.Thing is, we still don't know much about it.
The image above is a mock upbased on the limited information sneaking out so far. Pretty much all we actually know is that it will be 'companion' accessory to Samsung's Galaxy smartphones, with patent filings suggesting it might even have a flexible display. Access to the time, your musicand your mail are pretty much certain though. Be interesting to see how Samsung does thatand if it can do it whilst keeping the price at the very least affordable.
More details are almost certain to follow ahead of the big launch, but for now, you might want to hold off on buying a new watch until you see the Gear in action.

Prison For Notorious Gangs In El Salvador

Inside El Salvador's secretive prison pits where notorious gangs are crammed together like livestock in cells the size of a shed
Members of El Salvador's rival gangs the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) and Barrio 18 (M18) are penned in cages that are only meant to be used for temporary stays
An estimated 50,000 Salvadorans belong to the street gangs that have terrified citizens and left this small Central American nation of 6 million with one of the world's highest murder rates

Under the truce agreement, gang leaders imprisoned with their members are supposed to receive 'intimate visits' in jail - this is clearly not happening

Knitting brings soft color to hard objects

While this type of art might prove a nuisance for people who actually want to use, ride and walk on the things being blanketed with yarn, it does bring an instant soft feeling to a harsher exterior. “Needlework anarchists” as these crocheting culprits are known to have been covering all kinds of monuments, statues, vehicles, trees and even buildings all over the world.
